Meet Mary

As a certified birth doula, I am deeply committed to supporting families through one of life's most transformative journeys. My approach combines evidence-based knowledge with compassionate care, ensuring that your birth experience is respected and honored.

I believe that every birth is unique, and my role is to provide the physical, emotional, and informational support you need to make informed decisions that align with your values and preferences. Whether you're planning a hospital birth, home birth, or something in between, I would be honored to be a part of your birth team.

When I am not supporting births, you'll find me enjoying time with my three daughters who have each taught me something different about the miracle of motherhood.

What is a doula?

What is Birth Doula Support?

Birth doula support is a form of professional care focused on providing continuous physical, emotional, and informational assistance to birthing people and their families throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and the immediate postpartum period.

As your birth doula, I serve as:

A Knowledgeable Guide

I provide evidence-based information about birth options, procedures, and comfort measures, helping you navigate the complex healthcare system with confidence. Unlike medical staff who may change shifts, I remain a consistent presence throughout your entire labor.

An Experienced Support Person

I offer hands-on comfort techniques, positioning suggestions, and relaxation strategies to help manage labor sensations. These include massage, counter-pressure, breathing techniques, and movement guidance tailored to your unique needs.

An Emotional Anchor

Birth is as much an emotional journey as a physical one. I create a calm, reassuring environment where your feelings are acknowledged and honored, helping reduce anxiety and fear that can complicate labor.

An Advocate and Communication Bridge

I help amplify your voice during labor, ensuring your preferences are heard and respected. I also help translate medical terminology and procedures, facilitating clear communication between you and your healthcare providers.

A Partner Support

I provide guidance and reassurance to your partner or other support people, showing them effective ways to help you and ensuring they can participate at their comfort level without feeling overwhelmed.

The Benefits of Doula Support

Research consistently shows that birth doula support is associated with:

  • Reduced rates of interventions, including cesarean births

  • Shorter labors and less need for pain medication

  • Increased satisfaction with the birth experience

  • Higher success rates with breastfeeding

  • Reduced rates of postpartum depression

  • Greater confidence in early parenting

What Birth Doulas Don't Do

It's important to understand that as a doula, I do not:

  • Perform clinical or medical tasks

  • Make decisions for you or speak on your behalf

  • Replace the role of your healthcare provider or your partner

  • Judge or impose my personal beliefs on your choices

My role is to support your informed decisions, whatever they may be, and to help you have the most positive birth experience possible under any circumstances.

The Heart of Doula Care

At its essence, doula support is about honoring birth as a profound life transition and ensuring you feel supported, respected, and empowered throughout this journey. Whether your birth unfolds exactly as planned or takes unexpected turns, my commitment is to stand beside you with unwavering support, helping you to move through this experience with dignity, agency, and strength.
